Secuware Positioned in Visionaries Quadrant in Mobile Data Protection Magic Quadrant
Sunnyvale, Calif. - October 2, 2007- Secuware, Inc, a leading provider of centrally-managed data protection, today announced it has been positioned by leading analyst firm Gartner in the ‘visionaries’ quadrant in the 2007 Mobile Data Protection Magic Quadrant report1 published in September.
To be included in the report, a vendor must meet a number of criteria including regularly appearing on Gartner clients’ shortlists for final selection, demonstrating competitive presence and sales, having seat sales of at least 100,000 in 2006, and having annual revenues of more than $3 million in 2006.
The Secuware Security Framework (SSF) is the company’s headline solution, ensuring that only authorized users using authorized applications on authorized devices can access authorized data, regardless of where that data may be. The report states that, “Mobile data protection for notebooks and small devices is a rapidly growing market that began with basic data encryption and has expanded beyond hard drives and local files to encompass external data device controls and rights management. The mobile data protection market is led by small independent software vendors (ISVs), some of which have been in the market for more than 16 years. Protection schemes embedded in hardware or the operating system (OS) are incomplete and leave plenty of room for ISVs to compete for years to come.”
“Secuware is proud and delighted to achieve recognition through the Magic Quadrant process, given that we have only been operating outside of our home market in Europe for a little over a year,” says executive vice president and general manager Feliciano Rivera. “Our founder, Carlos Jimenez, has long been regarded as a visionary in the information security industry and the results of his technological creativity have assured the protection of hundreds of thousands of devices around the world. We look forward to bringing more of his groundbreaking ideas to the benefit of end user corporations in the coming years.
“It also appears that the report is highlighting the need for support of virtual environments, which is particularly gratifying given the leading-edge work Secuware is undertaking with several European corporations and government agencies,” added Rivera.
Secuware’s data-centric approach to media and file encryption enforces the data privacy and access controls set by Active Directory policy direction. Additional controls allow system access only to authorized USB and FireWire devices. Application management limits user access to a predetermined list of approved programs and delivers an additional layer of defense against viruses, Trojan Horses and other malware by preventing the accidental or deliberate activation of unapproved executables. In this way, SSF also contributes significantly to system stability, as users’ systems always have known, tested application configurations.
